San Angelo City Council

10-21-14

Highlights from October 21:

Can you say MARATHON?

9AM - 5:30 PM

1st HIGHLIGHT:

MARIACHI ALMA MEXICANA

What ended up being a very long day at City Council, began with a very special time out for some great music by San Angelo's Mariachi Alma Mexicana.  They entertained the Council attendees with two songs.  Enjoy!

2nd HIGHLIGHT:

YMCA DRIVE BECOMES

LUTHERAN WAY

The days of the YMCA being in Southwest Angelo are long gone - and now so is the name. City Council unanimously approved the street name change from YMCA Drive to Lutheran Way.

3rd HIGHLIGHT:

LEE PFLUGER'S TRANSLOADING SITE LOCATION AND "THE GORILLA" IN THE ROOM

This was the featured attraction of this meeting - and on-lookers got their money's worth today.  Two hours of DEBATE!  I had to divide it into two parts to upload it to YouTube.  It felt like it was Lee Pfluger versus everyone else in the room.  At one point Mr. Pfluger called the Council the Gorilla in the room.  Bottomline:  While no one wants to prevent Mr. Pfluger from doing this business, no one wants Mr. Pfluger to do "this" business in the middle of our beautiful city.  San Angeloans love their city and ALL the hard work and dollars spent to make it such a "pearl" on the Concho. It was a heartfelt passion by citizens to defend their home.

4th HIGHLIGHT:

REFUNDING BONDS

This Was A Good Thing!

In the midst of an agenda that had lots of things that people really didn't want to deal with, Tina Bunnell brought a rather refreshing concept to the Council.  Refinancing old bonds will save San Angelo's taxpayers over $800,000 total, about $68,000/year.  Bravo!
